Travelling Allowance (TA) – What You Should Know

UPSC does provide travel reimbursement for candidates, but there are some conditions you should know. The commission only reimburses Second Class or Sleeper Class train fare (Mail/Express).

Even if you choose to travel by flight or book an AC class ticket, the reimbursement will still be limited to sleeper class fare only. So, plan your travel accordingly to avoid extra expenses.

Documents Required for TA Claim

If you are coming from outside Delhi, don’t forget:

  • 2 copies of the TA Bill Form (properly filled)
  • Hard copies of travel tickets (both sides)

If you don’t carry tickets:

  • You must send them via email before entering the UPSC premises

Tip: Keep all documents ready in advance; don’t rely on last-minute arrangements.

How You’ll Receive TA

  • The TA amount will be given by the Cashier at the UPSC office
  • You can collect it on the same day after your interview

Medical Test After Interview (MST/RME)

Here’s something many candidates often overlook

After the interview, you’ll need to go through the next stage:

  • MST (Medical Standard Test)
  • RME (Review Medical Examination)

This stage will be conducted by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

Don’t assume the process ends after the interview; this step is just as important. A separate call letter will be issued for the medical examination, so make sure you keep checking updates regularly.

Important Instructions for Candidates

  • Stick to your assigned interview date and time
  • Carry all original documents + copies
  • Download your e-call letter on time
  • Keep your travel documents ready for the TA claim
  • Be prepared for the medical stage after the interview
